The ex-President of Brazil was banned from leaving the country

A Brazilian court on Thursday ordered to impound the passport of former President Luiz inácio Lula da Silva, to prevent him from leaving the country.

According to the Globo channel, the Federal police of Brazil has already received the judge’s decision on withdrawal of the document from Lula.

On Wednesday, three judges of the regional Federal court of Porto Alegre has tightened the punishment of ex-President Lula da Silva on charges of corruption. In July 2017 he was sentenced to 9.5 years in prison, now the decision of the court increased the sentence to 12 years and one month in prison.

Lula da Silva will not be able to participate in the presidential election, scheduled for October 2018, despite the fact that public opinion polls include him among the favorites of the upcoming presidential race. According to the court, he has no right to hold public office for 19 years.
