Rescue services Kiribati and New Zealand are searching for the missing in the Pacific ocean ferry, which was carrying 50 people, said on Saturday newspaper the New Zealand Herald.

According to the newspaper, a ferry sailed from the port of the island Nonouti Thursday, December 18, and was supposed to arrive in the capital of Kiribati South Tarawa two days later. After the loss of the vessel, the local authorities launched an operation to search for and rescue of the ferry, this week joined the operation of rescue services and defence forces of New Zealand.

«We are doing everything possible to establish the whereabouts of the ferry and passengers. As far as we understand, the ship is under repair in part of the propeller shaft before departure. This could lead to problems with navigation», — quotes the edition of the representative of the coordinating rescue centre in New Zealand.

As reported, the ferry was equipped with high frequency radio, however, it is unknown whether the vessel’s fuel and drinking water for passengers.
