The President of Ecuador, Lenin Moreno introduced on Saturday a state of emergency in several provinces after the explosion at the police station.

«I have declared a state of emergency in the province of San Lorenzo and the Canton of Eloy Alfaro to strengthen the safety of our citizens,» Moreno wrote in his microblog on Twitter.

The explosion occurred on Saturday near the site, located near the border with Colombia in the province of Esmeralda. Were injured about 20 law enforcement officers. According to police, the attack could be revenge by the criminal gangs who blew up a booby-trapped car near the police station.

According to the President, the explosion was associated with a terrorist act on the part of drug dealers after a successful police operations against crime.
