A Kuzbass resident of Leninsk-Kuznetsky brought to court for a few thefts of tombstones, which he after theft was restored and sold as new, said on Monday the regional Directorate of the interior Ministry.

At different times the inhabitants of Kuzbass and neighbouring regions said the police about thefts of granite monuments and tombstones from the graves of their relatives, located near the towns of Leninsk-Kuznetsky district. In all cases, applicants came to the cemetery to commemorate their deceased relatives and then discovered that the tomb is empty.

«The police identified and arrested the suspect. He was a resident of Leninsk-Kuznetsky, owner of a workshop for the production and restoration of memorial monuments. Investigation found his involvement in four burglaries committed in cemeteries in different localities. To save on consumables, the defendant stole tombstones and plates, restored them and sold them to customers as new», — stated in the message.

According to authorities, earlier judged 40-the summer man is accused of four thefts causing significant damage. During the investigation, the attacker fully admitted his guilt. Criminal case is directed to court, the sanction of article of charges carry up to five years of imprisonment.

In addition, victims have filed civil lawsuits against the defendant for compensation for material damage, added to the interior Ministry.
