Chief Rabbi of Russia Berel Lazar in Moscow took part in the ceremony of laying the stone of the memorial to the members of the resistance in Nazi camps and ghettos.

The stone was brought from the places of executions of Jews in the Smolensk region, and laid on Monday at the Jewish Museum and tolerance centre on the occasion of the International day of remembrance of the victims of the Holocaust и75 anniversary of the uprising in the concentration camp «Sobibor».

«Today, when we see around us the forces that want to sow hatred and fear, it is necessary to join efforts and to do everything possible so that people giliw the world, mutual respect. Sometimes you need to see horror to realize how important it is to build a society on a healthy basis,» said Lazar at the ceremony.

Before laying the stone was lit six candles of remembrance. The first was lit by chief Rabbi of Russia, the second — the Polish Ambassador Wlodzimierz Marciniak, the third U.S. Ambassador Jon huntsman, the fourth — chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Russia, the fifth — French Ambassador Sylvie Berman. Walk the candle lit, the granddaughter of the leader of the uprising of prisoners in a concentration camp «Sobibor» the Soviet officer Alexander Pechersky.

The huntsman in turn, noted that in remembrance of the victims of the Holocaust, it is important to understand that the responsibility should be borne by everyone living on earth. «It is our common duty to fight against discrimination, anti-Semitism, to fight for the rights and honor of all people who profess their religion» — he said at the ceremony.

In addition, on Monday, the Museum will open an exhibition about the only successful one in the history of the Second World war, the uprising of prisoners in a concentration camp «Sobibor». In 2018, this event marks 75 years.

It is expected that on Monday the exhibition will be attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who these days is in Russia on a brief working visit.

The exhibition includes manuscript and personal belongings of the leader of the uprising — the Soviet officer Alexander Pechersky, and various other participants of the event.
