The President of the European Jewish Congress (EJC) Viatcheslav Moshe Kantor urged to adopt a definition of anti-Semitism of the International Alliance of Holocaust (MAP) by all member countries of the OSCE, which has officially been adopted by UK, Germany, Romania, Bulgaria and Austria.

Kantor addressed the OSCE at the international conference on the responsibility of countries, organizations and individuals in the fight against anti-Semitism, which was held Monday in Rome. The conference is timed to the 80th anniversary of the adoption of laws about race, taken in Italy in 1938, on the eve of the adoption by Italy of the presidency of MAP.

The EJC President called on OSCE countries to adopt a working definition of anti-Semitism, to amend the national legislation on the basis of the determination and correct state enforcement measures in accordance with the General definition.

«On the Jewish street and finding solutions is a continuous process which often leads to a pessimistic dilemma: to remain in Europe and continue to live in the face of challenges in the form of anti-Semitism or to find a safe place to stay. Antisemitism is not exclusively a Jewish problem, it concerns all European citizens. Extremist ideologies begin with the persecution of the Jews, but actually, it is a challenge for society as a whole. We need to act quickly and not wait for the next catastrophe», — quotes the press-service of the word Cantor.

In addition, the EJC President presented the award to the «Jerusalem compass», the Italian foreign Minister Alfano for «combating anti-Semitism in all its manifestations, including Zionism, which is the most heinous and insidious form of anti-Semitism». He also presented the award of Golden Vision Ambassador Ronald Lauder, President world Jewish Congress because he «has devoted his life to the prosperity of Judaism, Jews to return to their roots and help to recreate the Jewish community worldwide.»
