The law on anti-Russian sanctions «On countering enemy of America» (CAATSA) will be a deterrent for companies and individuals wishing to make deals with companies from Russia, told RIA Novosti the representative of US state Department.

«Given the long time associated with the largest military deals, the results of these efforts are just stuffed to be tangible», — said the representative of the state Department.

The diplomat added that «from this point of view, if the law works, sanctions against specific entities or persons will not be necessary, because the law itself is a deterrent».

The state Department said that sanctions will be applied from January 29 to those foreign companies and private sector enterprises that carry out «significant transactions» with Russian companies under sanctions.

The President of the United States Donald trump 2 August 2017 signed the law «On combating the enemies of America through sanctions» against Russia, Iran and North Korea. The document in particular provided that by 1 October the US administration should provide a list of individuals and organizations in the defense and intelligence sector of Russia for «significant» transactions which can be introduced sanctions.Department of state: the law on sanctions against Russia will be a deterrent© Infografiken sanctions against Russia and retaliatory measures
