French tanker Gaselys liquefied natural gas (LNG) on Sunday stood up for unloading at American port of Boston. A couple of weeks in the US waiting for the second carrier. And both with the Russian fuel. Why Washington chose to forget about the anti-Russian sanctions — in the material RIA Novosti.

Through third parties

Arrived in Boston LNG cargoes around 100 million cubic meters of Russian origin. This fuel was produced at the end of last year at the company «NOVATEK» in the framework of the project «Yamal LNG». Then it was purchased by the Malaysian company Petronas and brought to England on the tanker «Christophe de Margerie».

French concern Engie has bought LNG from Malaysians to send across the Atlantic to the United States. The fact that in the North-East of America this winter has been harsh. Gas suppliers to the needs of the market is not closed, and this has led to a sharp rise in price of energy.

So, in December 2017 spot gas prices in the U.S. rose to astronomical 6.3 thousand dollars per thousand cubic meters. For comparison: blue fuel for Europeans, the average cost was less than $ 200 per thousand cubic meters, and is considered a premium, i.e. more expensive market in the Asia-Pacific region (APR) — about $ 390.

The situation is used by suppliers. It is known that the Engie is preparing to send to the North-East U.S. the second batch of Russian LNG. Currently, the Provalys tanker takes on Board fuel in the port of Dunkirk. The estimated date of arrival in New England — February 15.

However, this does not mean that NOVATEK through a chain of intermediaries was published in the American gas market. According to the Director of the national energy security Fund Konstantin Simonov, these transactions are of a local character. Target market LNG from Yamal — Asia-Pacific countries.

«As soon as the factor of bad weather will be offset by the prices in U.S. stabiliziruemost, and interest in LNG supply in this market will disappear» — I agree research Director Vygon Consulting Maria Belova.

This has created risks for construction on the Peninsula of Yamal LNG plant. We will remind, the Russian company in this project belongs 50,1% of shares, Total and China’s CNPC — 20%, silk road Fund and 9.9%. It was agreed that «NOVATEK» will help the Russian government. In addition, $ 12 billion was invested by Chinese investors.

The result of the sanctions policy of Washington failed. The project is being successfully implemented. The first phase of the plant capacity 5.5 million tons of LNG commissioned 5 December 2017. A couple of years the production volume will grow three times. And almost all the gas has been contracted 20 years ahead.

President Vladimir Putin, opening in early December last year, the plant said that «Yamal LNG» is a new horizons of development of the gas industry, the entire national economy. This project created high-tech jobs, a download of related businesses, lays the Foundation for efficient development of the Arctic and the Northern sea route.

The project seems to have appreciated in the United States. Russian energy Minister Alexander Novak told reporters that on the sidelines of the world economic forum in Davos, he discussed with his American colleague, Rick Perry of opportunities for cooperation and a visit of the plant «Yamal LNG».

«This is despite the fact that in the public space any trade deal between Russia and America today is perceived almost exclusively through the prism of sanctions,» — said Simonov.

Washington still intends to interfere with Russia in the energy sphere. Recently U.S. Secretary of state Rex Tillerson following the meeting with Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki said that construction of the pipeline «Nord stream-2» undermines the stability and security of Europe.
