Deputy Minister of labour Alexey Cherkasov spoke at the 56th session of the Commission for social development UN, where he spoke about measures to combat poverty in the Russian Federation, informs on Tuesday a press-Department service.

According to Cherkasov, social support covers all segments of the population, in recent years, managed to expand the list of social benefits to citizens.

For instance, one of the most vulnerable population groups – families with children – in December 2017 was adopted another package of measures to improve their financial position. «From 1 January 2018 to families, average per capita income below 1.5 minimum subsistence level and whose first child was born, an extra payment in the amount of the subsistence minimum of a child until the child reaches 1.5 years. This measure complements the existing system of material support of the family», — said Cherkasov in the UN.

Deputy Minister also reported that the state program maternal (family) capital provided by the birth of the second child or subsequent children, has been extended until the end of 2021.

«The government is actively working on reducing the number of low paid jobs and poverty reduction among the working population, gradually raising the minimum wage (SMIC). It is planned that by may 2018 the minimum wage will be equal to the minimum, the amount is approved separately in each subject», he said.

«The main goal of these projects is the development of human capital and, ultimately, improving the quality of life of Russian citizens», – summed up Cherkasov.
