In desyatinny monastery, exposed to the blockade and attacks by the Ukrainian nationalist organizations, on Tuesday brought the relics of St. George, revered in the Christian world as a defender from evil, according to Information-enlightenment Department of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP).

«6 February 2018 in the desyatinny monastery of the Nativity of the blessed virgin Mary from the Holy mount Athos with the blessing of Metropolitan of Kyiv and all Ukraine Onuphrius came the hand of the great Martyr George. The Shrine was brought from the monastery of Xenophon, the relics will be in the convent before the beginning of lent,» reads the message of Department.

In the Church said that near the right hand of St. George every day, will be held prayers with hymns for peace in Ukraine.

On Monday the Appellate court of Kiev released from-under arrest of two suspects in the arson of the monastery. The incident occurred on 25 January, the scene police seized Molotov cocktails. Later that same day, the national radicals stormed the monastery and cut down the information stands of the temple. Law enforcers detained Kiev, which has previously been brought to criminal responsibility. The vicar the tithes of the monastery, Archimandrite Gedeon (Kharon) appealed to the Ukrainian authorities, international organizations and the President of the United States Donald Trump to protect the monastery.

Saint George is one of the most revered saints in the Christian tradition. He is addressed as the patron Saint of soldiers, of farmers and ranchers. Georgians revere Saint as the heavenly patron of his country and pray for him on protection from evil. It is also known to the Islamic peoples of Africa and the Middle East under the name of Girgis and al-Khidr.
