The deputies of the Lithuanian Parliament from the party «Order and justice» Remigius, Zemaitaitis and Vytautas, Cablevision proposed to legalize the production and consumption of traditional Lithuanian alcoholic beverages, according to Sputnik Lithuania.

The MPs submitted the relevant amendments to the law on the control of alcoholic beverages. It is noted that the concentration of alcohol in a homemade vodka and other such drinks should not exceed 65 percent.

It is expected that the approval for the production, storage and consumption of home made vodka will be able to farmers who have registered in the register of Lithuanian households. This means that farmers provide services that meet the requirements of rural tourism, and are certified traditional artisans.

As noted, Zemaitaitis, in Austria the owners of private farms can produce up to 51 litres of home made vodka, not taxable. In Belgium there are no restrictions on the domestic production of alcoholic beverages, and the Czech Republic can produce up to 30 liters of homemade alcohol in a year, by paying concessional excise duty.

Even such fees annually bring the Czech Treasury to 220 million euros. Have similar experience in Hungary and France. In all cases a prerequisite is the production of alcoholic products from their own raw materials.

Zemaitaitis urged not to ignore the fact that the volume of home production of alcohol in Lithuania is growing. The politician reminded that its legalization would not only bring money to the budget and to attract tourists who want to try traditional Lithuanian drinks, but will also help to fight against producers of illegal liquor.

According to a report by Eurostat, the Baltic States are the leaders of the EU on alcohol consumption. Topped the rating of Estonia, where 5.6% of consumer expenses of citizens over the past year occurred in alcohol. Followed by Latvia and Lithuania with the figures of 4.8% and 4.2%, respectively.

From 1 January in Lithuania came into force the law on the restriction of the use of alcohol. 2018 alcoholic beverages can be bought to people over 20 years.

The time of their sale in stores and public eating places was significantly reduced to sell drinks allowed on weekdays and on Saturdays from 10.00 to 20.00, Sunday from 10.00 till 15.00.
