The Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill has called a terrible and cynical crime murder of parishioners in Dagestan Kizlyar.

According to the press service of the city administration, on Sunday 23-year-old young man opened fire at a Cathedral in Kizlyar, four people were killed, one died in hospital, and another four were injured. The attacker was killed on the spot.

«The killing of innocent people on the threshold of the temple — it is a terrible and cynical crimes that has not and cannot have any excuses. Make it could only be those whose hearts are filled with satanic malice and hate, in whom there is the spirit of peace and love,» reads the Patriarch’s message, posted on the website of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Patriarch Kirill added that it is deeply saddened by the tragedy that occurred near the Church of St. George in Kizlyar on the day Shrove Sunday, when Orthodox Christians prepare to celebrate lent.

«For centuries, the Caucasus live the peoples professing Christianity, and Islam and seeking to build their relationships on the solid Foundation of the principles of good-neighbourliness and respect for the spiritual culture of each other. I sincerely hope that the tragedy will not shake established faiths in the region, and those who acted as accomplices and masterminds of this terrorist attack will be punished,» — said the Patriarch.

He also urged the clergy of the diocese of Makhachkala to provide all necessary assistance to the families of the dead and injured.
