The Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill had pneumonia, which did not prevent him to perform daily services on the first week of lent, told RIA Novosti the head of the Patriarchal press service Alexander Volkov priest.

«The first week of Great lent, his Holiness Patriarch Kirill has conducted daily worship in the temples and monasteries of Moscow. The tradition to make all worship the first and passion weeks he inherited from his mentor, Metropolitan Nikodim. At that time it did not fit into the usual way of Episcopal life, with one LPD and the reading of the Canon of St. Andrew of Crete. The Patriarch of this tradition should be strictly every year, and its upsetting when he is unable to perform in whole», — said the priest.

However, he added that the Primate of the Russian Church recently had pneumonia, which did not prevent him to lead worship. «Doctor was very upset and tried to dissuade him from participating in services, but the desire for prayer in the first week it is difficult to oppose some arguments», — Volkov said.

The press Secretary also said that at present the health of the Primate’s normal, but it asked all believers to pray. «Please pray for the health of our Primate, ahead of a challenging schedule,» said the priest.
