Heads of Christian denominations, announced that on Wednesday morning will open the Church of the Holy sepulchre in Jerusalem, ending a nearly three-day protest against plans by city hall to tax Church property.

To resume the access of pilgrims to the places of execution, burial and resurrection of Jesus the guardians of the Shrine was decided after the Israeli authorities agreed to start negotiations on the settlement of the financial dispute and to suspend their procedure for the foreclosure of municipal tax.

«In light of recent events is hereby declared that the Church of the Holy sepulchre… will be reopened for pilgrims tomorrow, February 28, 2018, 4.00 (5.00 GMT),» reads the statement of the Greek, Armenian patriarchs of Jerusalem and the Catholic catchword of the Holy land.

These three denominations jointly operated by the Church of the Holy sepulchre and together initiated the protests, refusing to obey the request of the Jerusalem municipality for payment of the tax from all real property except for actual houses of worship.

Church leaders thanked the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu for «constructive intervention» in the problem and expressed willingness to cooperate with the working group, which will seek a compromise led by Minister tzachi Hanegbi.

«We, the heads of the churches responsible for the Holy Sepulchre and the status quo of various Christian shrines in Jerusalem… thank God for the statement released today, Prime Minister Netanyahu and commend all who have worked tirelessly to maintain the Christian presence in Jerusalem and protection of the status quo,» — said in a joint statement.
