Scientists from the canadian Centre for addiction and mental health at the University of Toronto found that a long depression can cause changes in the brain. The study is published in the journal the Lancet Psychiatry.

The study involved 25 people who had suffered from prolonged depression for more than 10 years, 25 people with depression average duration and 30 healthy people.

Those who have been suffering from depression, in the brain found in the average about 30 percent higher level translocating protein generated by the immune cells. Similarly, as was found in previous studies, the brain responds to neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease, but depression, even to those it does not apply, according to new results may in some respects have a similar effect.
