The Stuttgart Prosecutor’s office filed charges of involvement in the murder of 13 thousand 335 persons against 94-year-old former member of the SS, a former guard of the concentration camp «Auschwitz-Birkenau» during the Second world war, said Monday the official representative of Department.

«The accused worked as a member of the SS from December 1942 to January 1943 in the camp as a guard and thus supported the actions of destruction,» — said the representative of Prosecutor’s office of the TV channel n-tv.

A former SS officer Groening was known as the «accountant of Auschwitz». He worked in the administration of the concentration camp accountant and was engaged in the registration and posting of currency that was seized from prisoners upon arrival in camp. In the course of the trial Groening twice made the statement that recognizes the moral guilt for killing people in a concentration camp.

Protection Groening tried to appeal the verdict. The Hanover Prosecutor’s office found him fit enough to be serving a prison sentence. The higher regional court in Celle confirmed that Groening may serve time in prison, despite his age.

The court found that the state is obliged to ensure equal treatment of all sentenced, and special needs Groening «can be satisfied by appropriate safeguards». At the end of December 2017, the German constitutional court rejected the complaint Groening, who had asked for deferment of confinement.
