Armenian MPs will elect the Prime Minister

Members of the National Assembly (Parliament) of Armenia, in spite of the protests, come to a special meeting during which it is planned to elect a Prime Minister, the correspondent of RIA Novosti.

On the eve of opposition MP Nikol Pashinyan, the leader of the protests against the election of ex-President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, said that his supporters will block all access to Parliament in order to disrupt the meeting.

However, adjacent to the National Assembly street Demirchyan left open, and the deputies were able to enter the building. The meeting will begin at 11.00 GMT.

The Parliament building has already headed the motorcade of Pres. A few cars passed from the government to the houses on Demirchyan street towards the National Assembly building.

For the election of Sargsyan, the Prime Minister requires a simple majority from total number of deputies. The ruling coalition – the Republican party of Armenia and Dashnaktsutyun — owned 65 seats out of 105.

After the completion of the presidential term Sargsyan entered into force the new text of the Constitution, according to which the power is concentrated in the hands of the Parliament and government, and the functions of the President which will be elected by the Parliament, will be representative. The new President of Armenia Armen Sarkisian took office on April 9.

In this case, from 13 April in Yerevan held a protest against the election of Sargana as Prime Minister. Monday on Baghramyan Avenue near the Parliament building, clashes broke out between protesters and police. According to Ministry of health, injured 46 people. On Tuesday, the police said it reserves the right to disperse a rally.
