Sunday at close distance from the Earth is flying a large asteroid, according to Space.com.

A celestial body in size from 48 to 110 meters, which was given the designation 2018 GE3, approached the Earth at a distance of 192 thousand kilometers. This is approximately half the distance from our planet to the moon.

GE3 2018 Asteroid flew past us today, half the distance to the Moon. Around 50-100 m in diameter, it was several times the 2013 Chelyabinsk meteor, around the size of the 1908 Tunguska event ~ easily enough to destroy a city. We had less than a day’s warning. The asteroid in 2018 GE3 in size several times greater than the meteorite that fell near Chelyabinsk in February 2013 and is comparable to the Tunguska meteorite collided with Earth in 1908.

At the same time, the emergence of a celestial body took astronomers by surprise: it was able to detect only 21 hours prior to closest approach to our planet, said Space.com.
