The people’s court of the city of Guyuan in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous region in North China has sentenced 65 people to prison terms up to 14 years for fraud in social networks and on Dating sites, according to Xinhua news Agency.

According to the materials of the investigation, victims of fraud were mostly lonely people using social networks and Dating sites. Fraudsters posing as single women looking for a partner, they tricked forced their victims to pay the fake train tickets and the plane or asked for money in aid in an emergency.

From January to December 2016 the group of swindlers managed to deceive more than 130 people and earn more than 9.2 million yuan (about 1.4 million).

As reported, the leader of a group of crooks by the name of Lee received 14 years in prison, in addition to this he is obliged to pay a monetary fine in the amount of 100 thousand yuans (16 thousand dollars).

The remaining 64 convicts depending on the degree of fault and gravity of the acts committed received a different duration of prison terms, the maximum of which is 12 years old.
