In the Moscow Patriarchy hope that the Constantinople Patriarchate will not change its position on supporting the canonical Church in Ukraine, told journalists the Chairman of the Department for external Church relations of the Moscow Patriarchate Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk.

He commented on the statements of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko on the intention to address to Constantinople Patriarch Bartholomew with a request to give permission to create in Ukraine, «one local Autocephalous Church.» According to Poroshenko, the Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate allegedly may have until July 28 to make the relevant positive decision.

«We do not have sufficient information about the content of the conversation between President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and the Patriarch of Constantinople, Bartholomew,» he said, answering the question of RIA Novosti about the reaction of the ROC to the statements of the Ukrainian President.

According to the Hierarch in the Russian Church originates «from the fact that the unity of the Orthodox Church is a solid value that should support all local Orthodox churches». Metropolitan Hilarion reminded that Patriarch Bartholomew has repeatedly stated that he considered the head of the UOC-MP, Metropolitan of Kiev Onufriy «the only canonical head of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine.»

«We believe this position and that this key position can not change», — concluded the representative of the Russian Orthodox Church.
