Russia and India share similar views on the future of Afghanistan, said Russian Ambassador to India, Nikolai Kudashev.

«In General, Russia and India have similar ideas about what we want to see Afghanistan a stable, independent, peaceful, democratic, prosperous, friendly to neighbors, independent and well integrated in the regional economic system,» said Heidi Robinson, in his lecture in new Delhi.

The Ambassador noted that the results of continuing on the many years of foreign military presence cannot be described as successful in any form.

«This can also be said about most of the formats of the inter-Afghan settlement,» the Russian diplomat said, stressing that the idea of a possible military solution to the country’s problems «is in isolation from historical experience and the realities of today».

«The fight against terrorism in Afghanistan requires a comprehensive approach and should primarily include strong measures aimed at effectively combating poppy cultivation. This component, in fact, is not in the «new strategy» of the USA (Afghanistan — ed.),» said Kudashev.
