The owner of the floating cosmodrome «Sea launch» is going at the turn of the years 2022-2024 to create on the basis of the elements of the ISS «orbital spaceport,» he said in an interview with RIA Novosti General Director of S7 Space (a subsidiary of S7 Group) Sergey Sopov.

«The next stage, if we are talking about the period 2022-2024 years, is to create on the basis of the elements of the International space station, «Orbital spaceport». Boeing last year approached NASA with a proposal for the «privatization» of the U.S. segment of the station with a view to its commercial exploitation. This step comes in line with US policy on commercialization activities in low-earth orbit that America moved past two decades,» said Sopov.

According to him, plans to make Space S7 «orbital spaceport» a key element of future space transport systems «near space – deep space».

«The ISS will serve as a transshipment base, space port, transport hub, if you like, between Earth and deep space, significantly reducing the total cost of organizing such flights. Will not need to create a very expensive super-heavy rocket to carry the fuel and equipment. All could be done for «orbital spaceport»: to refuel, to repair equipment, rest», — he explained.

SOPs recalled that the project proposed to be undertaken in the format of the concession agreement on the Russian segment of the ISS. In addition, the main structural element of the spaceport should be developed in Russia reusable interorbital tugs with nuclear power installation megawatt class.

«These technologies yet no one in the world. And we, I mean Russia, need to most likely occupy a niche of transportation in deep space. In fact, so the full name of company «S7 space transportation systems», as we intend to not only work on the launch services market — output loads into orbit, but also engaged in transport support of space infrastructure in earth orbit and interplanetary transport service routes», — said General Director of S7 Space.
