Russian scientists first in the world recovered after storage frozen heart frogs during the development of the technology for unlimited preservation of tissues and organs, said RIA Novosti the head of the design team of the advanced research Foundation (DRF) Professor Anatoly Kovtun.
«FPI conducts research work on the creation of technology, an unlimited time of preservation in a viable state of isolated tissues and organs. The subject of our special pride is the fact that for the first time in the world was able to recover after storage for 45 days of heart of the frog, frozen at minus 196 degrees Celsius,» said Kovtun.
In addition, the researchers were able to achieve a sustainable recovery of the functional activity of isolated rat heart after 24 hours of hypothermic storage at plus 4 degrees.
«Successful transplantation of hearts after hypothermic storage in rats-recipients. With existing technologies, the shelf life of the heart is not more than 6 hours», — underlined in the Fund.
According to Kovtun, the success of the work, capable of producing a scientific revolution in rehabilitation medicine, as one of the important unresolved problems is the problem of long-term cryopreservation of tissues and organs for purposes of transplantation.
«It could lead to banks of frozen bodies and the salvation of thousands and thousands of human lives», – said Kovtun.
The main method of solution of the research problem in this case is a cryopreservation is low — temperature storage of living biological objects with the ability to restore their biological functions after thawing.
According to the representative of the FPI in this direction have already been developed and experimentally confirmed new methodological approaches to the cryopreservation of tissues and organs that allow to freeze the bodies of animals with preservation of their functional status.
«To date, developed and experimentally proved at the cellular, tissue and organ models the concept of vitrification of biological objects, providing freezing without crystallization in conditions of reduced 20-30% of the total concentration of cryoprotectants», — said Kovtun.
For example, on the model of the aorta rats restores endothelial and smooth muscle layers of the vessel at 85% -95% of live cells after freezing to cryogenic temperatures. Proven recovery of the contractile function of the vessel.
A project to develop technologies for cryopreservation of organs and tissues is carried out, PEF 2015. The Prime contractor for the project is the Institute of cell Biophysics (Pushchino, Moscow oblast). It is expected that the main consumers of the results of intellectual activities for the project will be the Ministry of health of Russia, FMBA of Russia and other interested Federal agencies.
The Foundation for advanced studies was created in 2012 to promote research and development in the interests of defence and security of the country. Activities are conducted in three main areas — chemical-biological and medical, physics and technical, information. At the end of 2015 in the structure of FPI was created by the national center of technology development and the basic elements of robotics. Currently, the Foundation runs more than 50 projects, they created more than 40 laboratories in leading universities, research institutes and defense industries.
