The President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic told reporters before the summit EU – Western Balkans about the pressure on Belgrade to recognize independence of the breakaway Republic of Kosovo.

Meeting of the heads of States and governments of the EU countries with the leaders of the Balkan countries — Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia, and the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo will be held on Thursday in Sofia. The heads of States will discuss issues of deepening cooperation in addressing common security threats and migration, and the ways to assist States of the Western Balkans on their path of European reforms.

The Serbian President did not elaborate on what the state in question. He noted that the solution to the problem of Kosovo, «Serbia is looking for a compromise solution» that will meet the interests not only of the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, Belgrade.

Kosovo Albanian structures in Pristina in February 2008 unilaterally declared independence from Serbia. The self-proclaimed Republic does not recognize Serbia, Russia, China, Israel, Iran, Spain, Greece and several other States.

The Serbian authorities under pressure from Brussels and the region of convergence with the European Union, as well as for the sake of ease of life in the region, Serbian citizens in 2011 were forced to start negotiations on the normalization of relations with Kosovo Albanians with the mediation of the EU.

The President of Serbia at the meeting of 19 April with the head of EU diplomacy Federica, Mogherini stressed that the Kosovo Albanian authorities in Pristina are not going to abide by the agreements reached in the dialogue with the Serbian leadership in Brussels.
