Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill said that concerned about the deepening contradictions in relations between Russia and the United States, and admitted that at the time of active hostilities, countries in Syria felt «very dangerous moment in history» that is associated with the possibility of a nuclear conflict.

The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church on Thursday was found in the temple of Christ the Savior with the head of the Ethiopian Church Abunai by Matthias I.

«It is obvious that Christianity in our time has become the most persecuted religious community in the world. And it would seem that countries with a Christian tradition should unite together to put a stop to this terrible phenomenon of terrorism, including that directed against Christians. But instead deepen the contradictions between the great powers and those countries which have common historical Christian background, unfortunately, today are not in the best relations», — said the Patriarch.

According to him, when a few years ago there was a «special tension in Syria» and two international coalition – «one in the U.S., the other – the presence, in the first place, the Russian troops» — began military operations in the region, «we felt a great danger.»

«Never so close never touching the United States and Russia on the territory, where both sides take part in the hostilities. And I felt that sets a very dangerous moment of history, because even the random collision of these two forces could lead to all-destroying and destroying all of human civilization nuclear war», — said the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church.

It was then, recalled the Patriarch, he decided to get in contact with Pope Francis. The primates of the Russian Orthodox and Roman Catholic churches agreed about a meeting in February 2016 in Havana, to ease international tension and to stop the increasing genocide of Christians.

The most difficult situation today in the middle East and Africa, in these regions most of the Christians become the victims of terrorists, the recognized head of the Russian Orthodox Church.

«Of great concern is the situation in Nigeria, where the genocide of Christians took the most extensive. We are very compassionate to those Christians who remain in an irregular situation in Somalia. We know that terrorists from Somalia are threatening the Christian populations in neighboring Kenya, and the victims of this terror were the believers. The whole world is shocked footage of the massacre of terrorists over the believers of your Church in April 2015 on the shores of the Mediterranean in Libya,» — said the Patriarch, addressing the head of the Ethiopian Church.

The head of the Russian Orthodox Church said that I am deeply convinced that religious communities is fairly strong peacekeeping potential, «and that potential still has to work today». The Patriarch called on all Christian churches and communities to join together in developing common approaches to countering terrorism and genocide of Christians in several countries.
