A hypothetical refusal of Berlin from the «Nord stream 2″ does not guarantee the growth of imports of liquefied gas from the US, said the Minister of economy and energy of Germany Peter Altmaier

«The U.S. is looking for markets. We understand this and are ready to ensure that this gas is easier to come to Germany. But at present it remains significantly more expensive than gas supplied by pipeline», — said the Minister in a live TV channel ARD.

Altmaier added that if the United States put at the heart of its economic interests, they should be prepared for the fact that the Europeans do the same.

Previously, the Agency Bloomberg with reference to the Deputy assistant Secretary of state Sandra Odekirk reported that in case of further development of the «Nord stream 2″ Washington may consider retaliatory measures in the framework of the law «On combating the enemies of America by sanctions» (Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act, CAATSA). She explained the U.S. position that the construction of the pipeline will increase Europe’s dependence on Russian gas.

The project «Northern stream 2″ involves the construction of two pipelines with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas off the coast of Russia through the Baltic sea to Germany. The new pipeline is planned to be build next to the existing «Northern stream».

The operator of project Nord Stream AG 2 have already received permits necessary for the construction of the sea gas pipeline in German territorial waters and the receiving terminal in the country. Permission was also given to Finland.
