The Supreme administrative court of Egypt cancelled the previously adopted decision on the ban on the import of Russian wheat content of ergot, told RIA Novosti filed a lawsuit lawyer Tarek al-Awdi.

«The Supreme administrative court decided to celebrate the ban on the import of Russian wheat content of ergot,» — said the Agency interlocutor.

He added that the court session was held on Saturday.

According to the lawyer, the court’s decision means that Egypt will be able to continue to buy grain in accordance with the rules for import of food products set by the Ministry of supply and internal trade and the Ministry of agriculture.

The first instance court at the State Council of Egypt in mid-November of last year has satisfied the claim of the Egyptian lawyer al-Awdi to ban the importation of wheat, affected with ergot, in particular, this applies to Russian grain. The lawsuit claimed that this fungus threat to human health in any concentration.

However, the government appealed, challenging the demand for zero content of ergot in wheat imported from Russia and other countries. According to the government, the permissible level of content of ergot is 0.05%.

During the trial, Egypt has continued to import wheat and to hold tenders in accordance with Egyptian and international standards.

Egypt is the largest wheat importer in the world and also one of the main buyers of Russian grain.
