Artistic Director of the Mariinsky theatre, conductor Valery Gergiev will be the music Director of the Verbier Festival orchestra jubilee, which will be held from 19 June to 5 August in Switzerland, in Verbier, said at a press conference on Wednesday, founder and Executive Director of the festival Martin Engstrom.

«Maestro Gergiev will be the music Director of the Verbier orchestra is an ensemble of hundreds of young talents from around the world. The festival will open June 19 in the concert hall of the Salle des Combins is the main site of the festival. The program will include works by Shchedrin, Saint-Saens, Mendelssohn, Bernstein, Rimsky–Korsakov, performed by the Verbier Festival orchestra under control of Gergiev.

«It will be seven Symphony concerts, two of them under the leadership of Valery Gergiev. In addition to the concert-the opening of Mr. Gergiev will also be conductor of the Opera, which will be attended by both masters and young talents. 25 July will be a gala concert which will bring together all the stars,» — said Engstrom.

Among the participants of the Verbier Festival this year: pianists Denis Matsuev, Mikhail Pletnev, Julien Quentin, conductor and violist Yuri Bashmet, violinist Vadim Repin, Dmitri Sitkovetsky, Maxim Vengerov, kristóf baráti, chorus of the Mariinsky theatre and others. The festival will include performances of Opera and ballet, the performers of jazz and world music, and workshops.

The festival is held since 1994 and has consistently demonstrated a high level of performance and quality training programs musicians. The festival will take place on the 59 concerts, with the participation of 88 the greatest musicians of different countries and more than 270 young talents.
