The President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite signed the law on strengthening the army, the army structure and military personnel limit in 2019 and 2024, according to Sputnik Lithuania with reference to the press service of the presidential Palace.

Earlier, the Lithuanian Parliament approved the law on the structure of the army of the Baltic Republic.

It is expected that under the new act, the Armed forces will be strengthened, and the completion of the army improved.

The document provides for the replenishment of the army of 600 soldiers in 2019. More than 500 of them will be professional soldiers. In the past year in the armed forces came to 700 people — in fact, the battalion, stated in the message.

Also next year it is planned to create a battalion of communications and information systems, which will complement the power and control over the army and strengthen cyber defense. Until 2024 will create additional logistics battalion.

According to the presidential Palace, the current army structure combined optimal, so the authorities plan to maintain the mandatory conscription.

It is planned that the implementation of the law in next year’s budget will be allocated about of 36.3 million euros, and in 2024-m — about EUR 108.2 million.
