A group of young scientists of the far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) in Vladivostok, has created a new type of optical ceramics, which can be used in ground and space optical communication, according to the University.

Optical ceramics have been obtained as a result of the cycle of works on design transparent polycrystalline materials with desired properties. Application for invention filed with Rospatent. The nano YAG:Nd outperforms commercial glass and single crystals, are now used in laser technologies.

«An important result of the invention is to simplify and cheaper technology of production of transparent ceramics. In particular, easy control the variety and amount of active additives allows you to vary the functionality of the final material,» said senior researcher School of natural Sciences Denis Kasyanov.

Also, the new ceramics can be used for monitoring contaminants, the development of devices for high-precision distance measurements, the implementation of new regimes of laser processing, recording and storage of information.
