The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States (LAS), Ahmed Aboul Gheit called on all Arab countries to provide financial support for the middle East the UN Agency for assistance to Palestinian refugees and works (UNRWA).

As said on Wednesday the official representative of the Arab League Mahmoud Afifi, the Commissioner-General of UNRWA had addressed a letter to the Secretary General of the Arab organization. In the letter, he told about the poor financial situation of the Agency after the US decision to reduce its contribution in its budget.

According to the high Commissioner, the deficit of the Agency had reached an unprecedented level of 446 million dollars. Jeopardy educational programs to half a million Palestinian children living in refugee camps and providing medical services to over three million children

«The Secretary General of the Arab League considers necessary as soon as possible to work on the deficit of the budget of UNRWA and calls upon all Arab countries to contribute to this important cause, supporting stability in the region in order to avoid even more dangerous humanitarian crises, particularly in the Gaza strip», — is reported in the statement of the official representative of the Arab League.

According to the Arab League, formerly aid to UNRWA in the amount of 150 million US dollars, provided by Saudi Arabia, UAE and Qatar.
