Nigeria hopes to strengthen military-technical cooperation (MTC) with Russia, including in the framework of the antiterrorist policy of the Nigerian authorities, said the Chairman of the Senate national Assembly of Nigeria, Abubakar Bucol Saraki.

«Last but not least we are interested in the field of counter-terrorism. This applies to military equipment and training. We ask the country to maintain military equipment. Russia has done this before, for which we are grateful,» said Saraki at the meeting with Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko.

The politician added that Nigeria hopes to expand this cooperation. «We want to see you took advantage of the situation and took the lead in this. We can discuss what can be done in military cooperation», — he said.

Saraki also noted the need to strengthen ties in other areas, pointing to the potential of Nigeria as one of the leading countries of Africa.

«Statistics show that by 2050 Nigeria will be the largest economy in Africa, and Russia will certainly be the largest in Europe, and I believe that at this time we take an important step to a beautiful future. We are already cooperating in various international platforms, but we are ready to deepen cooperation further. Russia needs Africa. Nigeria — the gates of Africa. I think this should be the basis for building relations,» he said.
