Representatives of the Russian medical society and expert community participated in the development of new International classification of diseases (ICD-11), there is ongoing discussion of the project at the international level, the press service of the Ministry of health of the Russian Federation.

Earlier it was reported that the world health organization released new International classification of diseases (ICD-11), which must be approved at the world health Assembly in may 2019. In it, in particular, a new kind of mental disorders recognised gambling.

«On the issue of development, it should be noted that the part of the Russian Federation, representatives of the medical professional and the expert community actively participate in the development and improvement of ICD-10, as well as the preparation of proposals for the development of ICD-11», — stated in the message.

The current version ICD-10 was introduced in Russia in 1999. Russia was among the first moved on to this version of classification, noted in a press-service.

Currently there is a discussion of proposals in draft ICD-11 at the international level. A new edition of the ICD-11 is planned to be submitted for approval by the world health Assembly in 2019, it shall enter into force from January 2022, after which each country will make their own decision about the transition to ICD-11, explained in a press-service.

The use of the International classification of diseases, necessarily, but the use of one or another version is at the discretion of the state, said the Ministry of health.
