The EU should resist trading the US actions so that not to start a trade war, said the Prime Minister of Ireland, Leo Varadkar.

Members of the EU summit in Brussels discussed the actions of the US in trade and protectionism, he said. The position of the EU in this matter, «absolutely one,» the Prime Minister said, Recalling that the EU has already reacted on the new US tariff on steel and aluminium opening a dispute to the WTO, and increased tariffs on some imported US goods in the EU.

«Any retaliatory action that we take must be proportionate. We should try to avoid of escalation to trade war «an eye for an eye», which would be in nobody’s interests,» he said.
