Speculation of the Ukrainian politicians on the interethnic relations in Crimea and the Russian status of the Peninsula are doomed to failure, said the Vice-Premier of the Crimean government Dmitry Polonsky.

Earlier ex-President of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk said in an interview with «Observer» that the return of the Crimea to the Ukraine could provide the Peninsula’s special status. Kravchuk noted that the relevant amendments to the Constitution of the country is in the process of training. According to him, the subject of power in Crimea are the Crimean Tatars.

According to the census conducted in 2014, nearly 70% of the Peninsula’s population is Russian. Kravchuk did not specify how Kiev should deal with these people.

«Attempts to make some populist statements to flirt with the individual representatives of some of the peoples of the Crimea, are doomed in advance to failure. Take it all seriously or to draw far-reaching conclusions should not. It’s their internal kitchen, where they try to cook the soup that they have not obtained», — said RIA Novosti Polonsky.

He called such statements by Kravchuk advances to representatives of recognized as extremist and banned in Russia organization «the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people» who live in Ukraine.

In turn, the Deputy Chairman of the Crimean Parliament for interethnic relations Yuri HEMPEL called the statement of Kravchuk’s attempt «to play on a national theme.»

«It’s a very dishonest and dirty. They are trying to manipulate the citizens of the Crimea, through the national theme. The promise of some illusory autonomy — another bluff, we hear from the Ukrainian politicians. Under any circumstances not return Crimea to the Ukraine. In Crimea, we see inter-ethnic harmony, peace and understanding. No national group is not prejudiced on national or any other grounds,» said HEMPEL.

Crimea became a Russian region after held there in March 2014 referendum in which 96.77% of voters of the Republic of Crimea and 95.6% of residents of Sevastopol voted for joining Russia. Crimean authorities held a referendum after a coup in Ukraine in February 2014.

Ukraine still considers Crimea its but temporarily occupied territory. The Russian leadership has repeatedly stated that the inhabitants of Crimea democratically in full compliance with international law and the UN Charter voted for reunification with Russia. According to the Russian President, the question of Crimea «closed permanently».
