In Poland announced that the state oil and gas company PGNiG has the right to demand reduction of the price of Russian gas, the corresponding decision was made by the Stockholm arbitration.

The court agreed with the arguments of the Polish side about the existence of the so-called Yamal contract, under which Gazprom supplies gas to Poland, the prerequisites that give PGNiG the right to demand to lower the price of fuel, the press service of pelsoi of the company.

«We welcome the court’s decision confirming the right PGNiG to lower contract prices, and we expect its decline to the level of market prices in a later stage of the proceedings», — said the head of PGNiG Piotr, Wozniak. He argues that the formal arguments of «Gazprom» on the process was aimed at preserving «non-market» conditions of payment for gas embedded in the Yamal contract.

A long-term agreement, valid until 2022, provides for the annual supply of gas in Poland amount to ten billion cubic meters. The Yamal contract was signed in 1996.

In 2012, the price of gas purchased by Poland under the Treaty, reduced by ten percent. In 2015, PGNiG appealed to the Stockholm arbitration court with the claim about a new decrease in the cost of supplies. Their demands the Polish side explained that spelled out in the contract the price is too high and does not match the state of the market.

Gazprom has not yet commented on statements of the Polish party.

Competitor «Nord stream — 2»

In February the German media reported about the plans of the Polish authorities to build its own pipeline in the Baltic sea called Baltic Pipe. The throughput of the project will amount to ten billion cubic meters per year, and the launch will be in 2022, but the final decision should be taken in the current year.

In the Polish party «law and justice» was intended thus to connect to the Norwegian gas network. In the end of last year PGNiG to 15 years reserved pipeline capacity amounting to more than two billion dollars.

Associate Professor of political science and sociology REU them. Plekhanov Oleg Glazunov radio Sputnik expressed doubts about the realism of the plans of the Polish leadership.

«The country does not have their mining installations, the country has no resources for gas production, no deposits, and it plans to build a pipeline,» he said, adding that Norway does not have enough resources to supply for Baltic Pipe, and fuel supplied in the end will cost more than the Russian.

«Well, what’s the pipeline? Poland has its own gas? This is ridiculous,» he concluded.

Russian gas for Europe

Poland is among the countries that actively opposed the construction of the pipeline «Nord stream — 2». So, the Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki urged the US government to extend the project of U.S. sanctions and penalize European companies involved in its implementation.

«North stream-2» project, cost 9.5 billion euros involving the construction of the twin pipeline through the Baltic sea from coast of Russia to Germany. The total capacity of the pipeline will be 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year. The pipeline will be laid alongside the «Nord stream».
