The Stockholm arbitration court recognized the right of the Polish oil and gas company PGNiG to demand lower prices for Russian gas, said the press service of the Polish company.

«The arbitration court in Stockholm upheld the arguments PGNiG and decided in the partial award that a contract background, giving the right PGNiG to demand lower prices in the long-term contract under which Gazprom supplies gas to Poland (the so-called Yamal contract)», — stated in the message.

«The court granted PGNiG’s key arguments, pointing to the need to reduce contract prices and rejected the formal arguments of «Gazprom» to maintain existing non-market terms of payment in the Yamal contract. We welcome the court’s decision confirming the right PGNiG to lower contract prices, and we expect its decline to the level of market prices in a later stage of the proceedings», — the press service quoted the head of PGNiG Peter Wozniacka.

Signed in 1996, the contract provides for deliveries to Poland to 10 billion cubic meters of gas per year. The contract is valid until 2022.

In 2012, the cost of gas to Poland under this contract was reduced by 10%. In 2015, PGNiG filed a lawsuit in the Stockholm arbitration court on the new lower value. According to the Polish side, the price of gas in the contract is excessive and not consistent with the state of the market.
