The political decision of the EU summit on the extension of economic restrictive measures against Russia will have a negative effect on the process of implementation of the Minsk agreement, said Russia’s permanent representative to the EU Vladimir Chizhov, commenting on the results of the EU summit on June 28-29.

A source in EU institutions told reporters on Friday that EU leaders at a summit in Brussels agreed on a political decision to extend sanctions against Russia for another six months. A legal decision on the extension of sanctions to be taken by the EU Council in July.

«This decision of the summit on the prohibitive measures was preceded by a «very brief briefing of the participants of the Council of Europe by Germany and France, participating in the Normandy format on the settlement in Ukraine,» a conclusion that, obviously, to lift sanctions now delayed due to the lack of progress in the implementation of the Minsk agreements. At once I will tell what effect this will have, in terms of implementation of the Minsk agreements — negative. The incentive to do anything in Kiev was not, and now no side as participants in the «Normandy format» from the EU (Germany and France) and the European Union as a whole,» Chizhov told Russian reporters.

«With regard to the approaches of other countries, of Rome, heard a broadcast of statements (about the intention to block sanctions), though more from the leaders in the coalition government of parties than by the Prime Minister. Italy is just one of the countries that did not hide his negative attitude to anti-Russian sanctions. However, if their voice was heard, it was not decisive,» — said the Ambassador.

«I will not guess, standing there for this certain exchange of concessions to Italy on migration Affairs in exchange for softening its position on sanctions, but the result is what it is. It is clear that on every vote the supporters of the lifting of sanctions once there are opposing voices. According to our data, no additional restrictions no offer decided not to. The idea about increasing the duration of the sanctions from six months to 12, which is known to the group of countries with enviable regularity, trying to throw to consider this issue twice as often, not passed,» he concluded.

Chizhov also said that the legal decision on the extension of the package of sectoral or economic restrictions, which expire July 31, 2018, have yet to take the Council of the EU.

«The status of the European Council (EU summit), at its meetings will not be accepted a legally binding decision. Those are made out by the decision of the EU Council, i.e. at Ministerial level, with subsequent publication in the official journal of the EU. On it they have another month», — said the Ambassador. The EU’s decision on sanctions negatively to the Minsk agreement, said Chizhov© RIA Novosti, Infographicsrussia against Russia and international trade
