On the Lomonosov satellite on orbit during the first ever launch from the Vostochny cosmodrome, there are failures in the scientific equipment, reported RIA Novosti source in the space industry.

«On «Lomonosov» is in deep trouble. The part which is the responsibility of VNIIEM (all-Russian company-manufacturer of satellites for remote sensing of the Earth — ed), works, but the science is fuzzy, so to speak,» — said the Agency interlocutor.

Spacecraft «Mikhail Lomonosov» was made by the Corporation VNIIEM on the order of Lomonosov Moscow state University. The satellite was launched into orbit launch vehicle «Soyuz 2.1.a» 28 April 2016 during the first ever launch from the Vostochny cosmodrome in the Amur region. Along with the «Lomonosov» was launched spacecraft «AIST-2D» and SamSat-218, made by order of the Samara University. After reaching orbit SamSat-218 is the relationship with him cannot be established, the satellite remained inoperable.

Lomonosov engaged in the study of transient light phenomena in the upper part of the Earth’s atmosphere and radiation characteristics of the earth’s magnetosphere. His mass is 625 kilograms. The device is equipped with the space telescope to measure the energy spectrum and chemical composition of cosmic rays of extremely high energy from earth orbit. In addition, on Board the satellite are installed the instruments to study the cosmic gamma-ray bursts and the Earth’s magnetosphere.
