Environmentalists and specialists of the Federal grid company UES, United for the conservation of biodiversity and prevention of loss listed in the Red book of Russia’s far Eastern stork, contributed to the doubling of the number of these birds in the Amur region, reported the press service of JSC «FGC UES».

According to the company, the world wildlife Fund (WWF) and the Texas coalition of NGOs have announced 2018 as the year of the stork, which is listed in the Red data book of International Union for conservation of nature. In the Amur region environmentalists and energy have combined efforts to save populations of rare birds. In 2013, WWF and the Federal network company of UES cooperate in the field of biodiversity conservation and prevention of bird deaths.

«Man has changed the habitat of the birds in the Amur region the storks often build nests not in trees and on transmission towers. This allows them to protect themselves from natural enemies and to develop areas previously unfit for habitation», — the press service quoted Director of the public environmental organization», Nurses» Yuri Gafarova.

«An emergency involving birds on the main transmission lines, or every fifth case. We equip support special devices, so the birds can safely build nests at our facilities. Helping to keep the stork, we increase the reliability of networks and consumers,» — are reported words of the Director of the Amur branch of the Federal grid company UES Alexander Krivosheev.

Assessment of WWF and «Nurses», since the beginning of 2000-ies the number of Oriental white stork in the Amur region has doubled to 220 pairs. Everything in the world now there are about 4 thousand individuals. According to senior coordinator of projects on especially protected natural territories of the Amur branch of WWF Anna Barma, the reduction of the Oriental stork population may indicate the deterioration of the ecological situation, growth is about changing the situation for the better, the report said.
