The organization of American States (OAS) has convened an emergency meeting to discuss the situation in Nicaragua.

«The OAS permanent Council will hold an emergency meeting tomorrow, Friday, July 13, in the building of the OAS in Washington to assess the development of the situation in the Republic of Nicaragua», — said in a communique of the organization. This decision was made at the initiative of Argentina, Canada, Chile, USA and Peru.

In Nicaragua on April 18, held a protest on the background of the reform proposed by the authorities, which assumed an increase in the amount of contributions employers and workers in the social insurance funds. President Daniel Ortega already overturned it, but mass protests have not stopped. Ortega refuses to hold early elections, as demanded by the opposition.

The total number of victims of protests in Nicaragua reached 351 people, said the human rights organization «Nicaraguan center for human rights». Meanwhile, on Thursday killed four people during a demonstration by government opponents in the village Morrito of the Department of Rio San Juan, reports portal Nacional. The demonstrators attacked the police and armed supporters of the government, but was resisted. In the end, the dead included three police officers, another 17 people were injured.
