The Ministry of labor and social protection did not exclude the improvement of migration policies in the event of a change in the retirement age, said Deputy Minister Andrei Pudov at the enlarged meeting of the Federation Council.

According to him, before the lack of jobs were solved by attracting labour migrants. He noted that due to changes in pension legislation it will be possible to attract fewer people from other countries and employ more Russians.

Changes in pension legislation

In mid-June, the government proposed to raise the age of retirement to 65 years for men and 63 years for women. The process will be phased and will start in 2019.

It is noted that in this way conditions will be created for the annual indexation of pensions above the rate of inflation in balance and long-term financial sustainability of the pension system.

Now the standard age of retirement in Russia is 60 and 55 years for men and women respectively. It was installed back in the 1930-ies. The need for its increase caused by increased life expectancy and the inability to provide a decent pension in circumstances when the number of employees in the country decreases, while the number of pensioners is increasing.
