The number of flood victims in the South-Western and Central parts of Japan has increased to 204 people. This was announced by Secretary General of the government, Yoshihide Suga.

He added that the officially reported missing 28 citizens, while unable to confirm the whereabouts of a further 54.

In addition, the government decided to allocate subsidies to the 58 victims of human settlements in ten prefectures in the amount of 35 billion yen (about 350 million dollars).

Now, the disaster work 73 thousand employees of the defense forces, police and fire protection, as well as 5.5 thousand volunteers.

In the affected areas, more than 5,000 people are on evacuation points. Without water are more than 200 thousand households.

Torrential rains, which last week struck the South-Western and Central parts of Japan have led to floods and landslides, several cities were flooded.

By Sunday morning, in Gifu Prefecture received more than 1050 mm of precipitation, in the Prefecture of Ehime — 745 millimeters, Kyoto — 465, Hiroshima — 442, Tokyo — 430, in Okayama Prefecture, where in some areas homes were flooded to the second floor and above — 310 mm. This is two to three times the average monthly norm.

The worst affected Prefecture of Hiroshima, where over a swollen river was demolished railway bridge, and Ehime Prefecture on Shikoku island.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe due to flooding has cancelled planned for July 11-18, a trip to Europe and the middle East. Later the official representative of the European Commission, Margaritis Schinas stated that the EU summit — Japan moved from Brussels to Tokyo, it will be held on July 17.

This flood was the largest since 1982.
