The Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill on Saturday opened a session of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church, this is the first year it is being held in Yekaterinburg and the centenary of the execution of Emperor Nicholas II.

«First open meeting in this building. We arrived in Yekaterinburg in connection with the well – known anniversary- the centenary of the martyrdom, the murder of the Royal family,» — said the Hierarch. The Synod in session closed to the press held at the religious education center next to the temple-monument on Blood.

According to the head of the Patriarchal press service of the priest of Alexander Volkov, the decision of the Supreme body of Church management is difficult to predict. «In any case, while we can expect that nothing extraordinary will,» he said. Also, the Synod, he said, will not consider the question of the Church recognizing the so-called «Yekaterinburg remains».

«With regard to the topic of «Royal remains,» now it is before the Commission. As already mentioned, the final decision on their acceptance or rejection will not be tied to any date, even as significant as today. In any case, the findings of the Commission will be considered by the Council of bishops, the decision had been taken earlier,» said the clergyman.
