Moldovan President called for a strategic partnership with Russia

The President of Moldova, Igor Dodon, said that advocates for strategic partnership with Russia, and deplores the fact that Parliament and the government took the wrong position in relation to Russia.

«You know that the majority of citizens of our country and the President who has the legitimacy and voted directly by the citizens of the Republic of Moldova — we are for strategic partnership with Russia. We consider Russia a friendly state,» he said during the meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak.

He also expressed regret over the fact that other branches of government in the face of Parliament and the government of Moldova has taken against Russia other, «incorrect» position that does not correspond to national interests of the country.

At the same time, the President of Moldova hopes that it will be possible to identify areas and steps for the normalization of bilateral relations. He also noted that during the last fifteen years there has been a positive dynamics on many issues.

Kozak, in turn, expressed hope that the government and Parliament of Moldova will also take a constructive position on the issues that need to be addressed on a reciprocal basis. «We have to decide issues on the basis of mutual benefit, based on mutual interests,» he added, pointing also to the need for mutually beneficial cooperation in agriculture and industry.
