Seventeen members of the colony in Yaroslavl, allegedly involved in the brutal beating of a convicted person, suspended from work, told RIA Novosti on Sunday, the Commissioner for human rights in the region Sergei Baburkin.

Informed to «Novaya Gazeta» published a video of beating of a prisoner. The newspaper said that the incident occurred in June 2017 in penal colony No. 1 in Yaroslavl. The Federal penitentiary service confirmed the time and place of events recorded in the video. UFSIN across Yaroslavl region and regional Prosecutor’s office began checking on the media reports. The Department of insurance in the region brought criminal case about excess of powers of office.

«I was told today in a corrective colony №1 where I was this afternoon, that 17 officers of this colony, which are set for the video known, discharged of fulfillment of duties in respect of appropriate checks carried out. And probably next week will decide their fate in the near future», — said Baburkin.
