Spain sends two aircraft to help Greece fight forest fires, reported on the website of the Spanish Ministry of agriculture, fisheries and food industries.

According to a Ministry statement, «two of the amphibious aircraft Canadair sent to Greece to assist in the containment and extinguishing of forest fires». According to the Ministry, the aircraft should fly to Greece on Tuesday.

«Terrible news coming from Greece. Spain has activated the European civil protection mechanisms to send two amphibian aircraft to help in extinguishing the fire. I Express solidarity with the Greek people,» — wrote the Prime Minister of Spain Pedro sánchez on Twitter.

Earlier it was reported that as a result of forest fires in Greece killed at least 50 people and over 150 were injured.

In Greece on Monday, there have been several major fires, mainly in the Metropolitan region of Attica. In the last days in Greece is 40-degree heat, and on Monday the situation was aggravated by strong winds up to 7 Beaufort, which firefighters could not cope with the fire. The situation got out of control.

In Attica declared a state of emergency. The government does not rule out that the fires were caused by arson — a day at the same time were 15 fires. The media compared the situation to 2007, when the whole country was burning dozens of major fires.
