A complete rejection of mutual duties between the US and the EU currently appears unlikely, said RIA Novosti head of the center of development strategies of Gazprombank Yegor Susin.

Earlier, U.S. President Donald trump has proposed that the EU mutual waiver of fees to provide a «fair trade». He had already proposed similar steps by the EU and the G7 countries. At the moment, the idea of abolishing all taxes and subsidies is not realistic, since the US and the EU protect with them their commercial interests.

«From my point of view, a complete waiver of fees is hardly possible, because the EU is a significant part of the duties that existed before the complex commercial relationships, supported by certain sectors of the economy, i.e. balance certain imbalances,» — said Cousin.

«Politically within the EU, this decision will be very difficult, you will need to reach consensus between all the EU countries, which probably hardly can be. Therefore, a complete waiver of duties on both sides will be unlikely from my point of view,» — said the Agency interlocutor.

Later Wednesday, trump will hold trade talks with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker.

Cousin believes that the meeting will be of a more political nature. «I think it will be more a political meeting, I don’t think it will be some important decisions that can change current trends. Unlikely to find a consensus that satisfies both sides,» he concluded.
