«Revealed to 30.2 thousand tons of goods prohibited for import into Russia, including 4.1 thousand tons of banned products,» reports the service.

Mobile teams of the FCS checked 61,1 thousand vehicles, of which more than 2.1 thousand cars (about 3.5%) were found violations. Customs officers have returned to neighboring countries 24.5 thousand tons of goods, destroyed 3.5 thousand tons. On the revealed violations against carriers filed 219 cases of administrative offences and 13 criminal cases, the report said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin at the end of July 2015 signed a decree of destruction from August 6 of the same year of products prohibited for import in the country under anticyclonic measures (the so-called food embargo). The government was allowed to destroy such food by any legal means.

This measure does not apply to goods imported by citizens for personal use. According to Russian authorities, the sanctions the destruction of products helps to reduce the flow of contraband product, making it uneconomical.
