The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko on 28 July to take part in the solemn procession in Kiev on the occasion of the 1030-th anniversary of the baptism of Rus, reported in Wednesday’s press service.

The feast of the Baptism of Russia July 28, celebrated in Russia, Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine. In particular, in Kiev on 27 July will be held a procession to St. Vladimir’s hill, where the Metropolitan of Kiev and all Ukraine Onufry will make prayer. In Kiev-Pechersk Lavra the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church will conduct the Liturgy. While supporters of the Kyiv Patriarchate are preparing to hold their religious procession on the occasion of the day of Baptism on July 28.

«The twenty-eighth of July 2018 President Petro Poroshenko will take part in the events dedicated to 1030 anniversary of the baptism of Kyivan Rus – Ukraine», — stated in the message.

In particular, in the Mariinsky Palace will be held the state event, with the participation of the Ukrainian President, after which the procession will pass «Prayer for Ukraine». Then Poroshenko will speak at the monument to Prince Vladimir the Great.

Earlier the Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada from the «Opposition bloc» Vadim Novinsky appealed to the heads of the security Service, interior Ministry and the Prosecutor General with a demand to stop the pressure of local authority employees of the SBU on the leadership of the dioceses of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate on the eve of the procession. Also, Chairman of the Synodal information and educational Department of UOC-MP, Archbishop Kliment (Vecherya), representatives of the Special OSCE monitoring mission in Ukraine, the issue of preventing the participation of the faithful of the UOC-MP in the procession in Kiev on July 27.

In Ukraine today there are canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC-MP), which is a self-governing Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, and unrecognized by the world Orthodox Church structures — the «Kiev Patriarchate» (UOC-KP) and Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church (UAOC). The UOC-MP has repeatedly reported on cases of harassment of priests and seizures of the Orthodox churches of the dissenters.
